About Chittagong
Chittagong — Chattogram since the 2018 renaming, though the older spelling is still what gets typed into a search box — is the country's port city and its second land market. Plots are cheaper than in Dhaka for comparable size and position, and the demand behind them is different: the port, the export processing zones and the shipping trade rather than a corporate corridor.
The terrain does something to land values here that it does not do in Dhaka. The city is hilly in parts and low-lying in others, hill-cutting is regulated, and the flat eastern strip toward the coast waterlogs in monsoon. Both facts are worth putting to a seller directly, and worth seeing for yourself in the wet season rather than the dry one.
Land units also drift here. Katha is used, but so are gonda, kani and decimal, and a plot advertised in one may appear in the record in another. The converter linked below does the arithmetic; the point is to make sure the number in the deed and the number in the advertisement are the same piece of ground.
The spelling drifts too. A listing written চট্টগ্রাম জমি বিক্রয় and one written "land for sale in Chittagong" are the same market, and older records may use either form of the city name.

Is Chittagong the same place as Chattogram?
Yes. Chattogram is the official name adopted in 2018 and Chittagong is the older transliteration. Deeds, khatians and government records may use either, and both mean the same city and district.
Which land units are used in Chittagong?
Katha and decimal are common in advertisements, while kani and gonda still appear in older records and rural transactions. A katha is taken as 720 square feet, as in Dhaka. Check the unit in the khatian against the unit in the listing before you agree a price.
What is specific to buying land in Chittagong?
Two things Dhaka buyers do not think about. Hill-cutting is regulated, so land on or below a cut slope needs specific questions about approval and stability. And parts of the low-lying city waterlog during monsoon — look at the plot and its access road in the rain.
